You’re flying without wings…
If the only time you ever used a hovercraft was when your mum and dad took you across to the Isle of Wight for your holidays when you were a kid then it’s high time you gave these babies another look. Hovercrafts don’t just come in monster sizes, like the Seacats that used to ferry Brits to Calais to keep their wine racks stocked.
Hovercrafts are now more likely to come in one-man (or woman) versions designed for racing rather than for ferrying, and hovercrafting is a serious sport.
Hovercrafts can fly round the course at up to 60mph so it’s a long, long way from the old image of hovercrafting you may be familiar with. These hovercraft don’t carry cars. Or passengers. And there’s never, ever an old couple sat in front of you sucking Murray Mints, smelling of TCP and flicking through a copy of My Weekly.
This is hovercaft racing PartyWeekends.com style.

Hovercraft Racing on air...
We wouldn’t want you to book your hovercrafting weekends without at least knowing a little about what it is you’ll be driving, so here’s the science bit…
Hovercrafting is a bit like driving an air bed. Just assuming, though, that you haven’t taken your bed out for a spin recently we’ll turn to The Hovercraft Club of Great Britain (yes, there is one) for a proper explanation:
“A hovercraft is wholly supported on a cushion of air supplied by a powered fan mounted on the craft. The cushion of air created by the fan is retained beneath the craft by a flexible extension known as the skirt.”
So now you know.
You steer by moving the air deflectors at the rear of the hovercraft in much the same way as you use a rudder on a boat. And, just like a boat, steering your hovercraft takes skill and a little time to get used to. You’ll learn everything you need on your hovercrafting weekend from our expert instructors – but that’s all for later. Far more importantly right now, here’s what you’ll get when you choose hovercrafting for your adventure weekend in the UK or Riga.
Hovercrafting weekends with PartyWeekends.com*
• Safety equipment (including crash helmet) provided.
• Expert instruction on how to control the hovercraft.
• Take control of a 500cc hovercraft generating 50bhp.
• Fly your hovercraft round a specially designed course.
• Please note: you must be 17 years old or over to take part in our hovercraft weekends.
Mastering the controls is no mean feat, but once you’ve met that challenge you’ll realise that controlling a hovercraft is like handling no other type of vehicle. It’s driving without wheels; it’s boating without a boat; it is, as Westlife once annoyingly said, flying without wings. But don’t just take our word for it.
Here’s what HCGB (Hovercraft Club of Great Britain) have to say:
“(Hovercrafting) is a truly breathtaking sport. It's fast and exciting both to participate in and to watch.”
You’ll be steering (we use the term loosely) your hovercraft around a course specifically designed to get the maximum thrills – and laughs – out of your adventure weekend. It’ll test your skills, your nerve and your co-ordination to the limit – and when everyone’s tried their hand at hovercrafting you can head off for your next activity.
You see, PartyWeekends.com offers you so many activities that your first challenge will be seeing how many you can squeeze into your weekend break.
So if you feel like adding rage buggies, quad bikes or clay pigeon shooting into the mix and let us give you an adventure weekend in the UK or Europe you’ll never forget.
